And now we're on Pt. 2 of the adventures in my haircolor...
In case you missed Pt.1, here's a link - [link] Up at the top is the first step of this process. After waiting patiently (or at least as patiently as I could) for what little bit of color was left in my hair to finally fade away, I had my neighbor Tonia re-bleach the top and dye the underneath black. The top was re-bleached specifically so I could put the next color in... I used Enchanted Forest from Manic Panic, and I absolutely loved the results. It's such a rich color. Unfortunately, it only lasted about 15 minutes. When I purchased the haircolor from the local beauty supply store, I described what I was planning on doing to the woman working, and she showed me what I would need. She also said I should get this color gloss stuff, which she said went over the top of everything when I was done and would help seal in the color... Yeah, it didn't. In fact, it only succeeded in lightening the colors by a few shades. My black was now more of a dark brown, and my beautiful blue-green was now a lighter turquoise. Still pretty cool, but not so much. That's what you're seeing in that 4th row. If you full view it, you can see that it also caused it to fade very splotchy. Not cool. So... I used some Atomic Turquoise from Manic Panic that my sister had left over to try and even it out. I also got a cut to help show off the colors. The Atomic Turquoise evened it out a bit, but it still wasn't exactly what I wanted. I had planned on redoing the dark green when I could afford to by the same exact color from Special Effects, because that brand is supposed to last longer and fade more evenly. But, then I decided I wanted to try something else... So, I went to the local beauty supply store and picked up some After Midnight Blue from Manic Panic. I put that over everything and I have since fallen in love. And that's that. Hope you enjoyed it all. **Yes, I have put 3 different colors in my hair in about a month's time, but the brand I use (Manic Panic) is all natural and does nothing chemically to my hair. If anything, it helps it. So please don't tell me I'm going to fry my hair. I use actual (chemical) dye once or twice a year, so my hair has plenty of time to recover. |

I have some questions if you don't mind =X How long does the Manic Panic colour last? Because I would like somethign that lasts for a long time without re-dying, but does eventually come out so I can explore other colours such as yo have yourself.
Also I have a dark-ish brown hair, so I will also be needing to bleach =/ which frightens me, because I've been growing my hair for so long to get it to where it is, and I'm afraid of screwing it over and having to start form scratch >_< I can see from Pt.1 that you started with blonde, but what was your hair colour before that? And how much bleaching did it take?
P.S. (Not that it matters, but I would have liked to know myself) I'm a guy.
P.P.S. I'm sorry for bombarding you with questions =/ I hope you don't mind. Cheers!
The Manic Panic lasts weeks in my hair. Everyone's different though, so you won't really know for sure how long it will last in your own until you do it. But I'd say at least 2 weeks. Some of the colors fade very nicely (After Midnight Blue) so I didn't mind not redying it right away.
When it comes to getting it all out to explore another color, that's a bit tricker depending on the color you want to try next. IF you're trying a color that's similar such as a blue or green) then you can easily dye right over the top of the current color. If you want to try a color that's on the opposite end of the color wheel (like a red/orange) then you'd have to probably re-bleach it to try and get the rest of the color out. There are tips on the Manic Panic website for getting out the rest of the color, so you might want to check them out. I've never personally tried them.
Since the blue lasted so long, my hair was still very blue when I needed to get it to a natural color for my job search. I just used a regular hair dye over the top of it. I used Blue Black from Garnier's 100% color line. Then later on down the road, the luster faded from that. I recently bleached out sections of the black to a blonde and redyed the rest black. I had the slightest green tinge to my hair because of the blue that was there previously, but it was more of a metallic green so it looked pretty cool. It's since faded though and now they're more blonde than green.
My natural hair color, which is what I bleached out when I first started, is a medium brown. I only bleached it once before I put the Manic Panic in.
Do you know of you have a Sally's Beauty Supply shop nearby? If so, go there and explain what you want to do. They'll be able to help you find the right products to get your hair at the right level. Or, if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, go to a salon and have them bleach it for you. Just make sure you tell them what you're planning on doing after it's bleached. Some places might even put the manic panic in for you. But some won't because it's a liability thing.
When it comes to putting the manic panic in your hair though, you really can't screw it up. It doesn't do anything chemically, so it's completely safe on your hair. I always leave it on for longer than the jar says, and I wrap my head in a plastic bag and add heat, which seems to make it stay longer. The less you wash your hair the longer it will stay in, and washing your hair in cool water will also help it last longer. If you use any product in your hair like gel or hairspray, that will make it fade faster.
Sally's Beauty Supply also carries Manic Panic products, so you should check there for the color itself. Make sure you ask about colors that they don't have but can order, since they don't always carry them all in stock.
I don't mind the questions at all.
